What’s an iCon?

Great question. We’re glad you asked. iCons are everyday hero’s who have pledged to contribute to the work iHub has with the goal of bridging access to upskilling and employability opportunities to youth.

Think of it this way: You know that feeling when you see potential being wasted? When you meet someone brilliant who just needs a chance? It might even be someone you know and love. Well, iCons are people who decided to do something about it.

Here’s the thing: We’re not asking you to quit your job and become a full-time superhero.

The ask: R100 a month.

For some, that’s two morning coffees, while other’s it’s Friday night’s takeout budget.
To us, it’s so much more:

• It’s 4 student meals that are the difference between learning on a hungry stomach.
• It’s a 1.5 day’s travel fare – The difference between being able to get to class or not
• It’s two hours of detailed grading and feedback from our team
• It’s a Canva subscription that enables students to compete with the design work of pros

We can account for every rand spent. And every rand makes a difference. It deepens the work we do and helps to removes the many barriers students face long before sitting in front a computer and learning new digital skills.

Your contribution reaches every student directly. Not into some black hole of “administrative costs.” Into real programs. Real equipment. Real opportunities for real people.

Why iHub? Why Now?

Because we’ve been doing this for years, and we know what works.

We’re not some new initiative with big promises and no track record. We’re the people who’ve already impacted of young South Africans get their first jobs in tech, start and grow their, and build careers and futures.

And we intend to keep doing it. We just need more fuel for the fire.

We’re completely donor funded. And we’re extremely grateful for every contribution made by individuals far and wide. But our vision is big. There are many more young people to upskill and feed, and provide mental health services to. So we can use all the help we can get.
