The future

From humble beginnings, iHub Africa was born in 2019 in Cape Town as an afterschool coding programme for grade 12.

High youth unemployment rates inspired a team to develop a solution that empowers, equips and bridges access to opportunity.

The goal was simple yet ambitious: to give young people from underserved communities access to digital skills that would connect them to a global economy.

It began with a small group of learners, and a commitment to helping them see new career possibilities. This was the first step in shaping what would grow into a larger programme focused on preparing youth for real opportunities in the digital economy.

Scaling to Meet the Need

In 2021, iHub Africa took a bold step forward, expanding beyond Cape Town and launching a new hub in Gauteng.

This wasn’t just about growth. It was about responding to the demand from young people across the country who were eager for a chance to learn, earn, and belong.

The Gauteng launch marked a new chapter reaching more students, building stronger networks, and laying the groundwork for a national footprint.

A Clearer Focus, A Bigger Reach

33 youth completed the iHub Africa programme.

We refined the curriculum to focus more on what companies were actually looking for: hands-on experience, job readiness, and the ability to work in a team.

More structured support was introduced through alumni sessions, and partnerships that opened doors to placements and freelance work. It was a year of strengthening our approach and proving that the model could work at scale.

Real Impact, Real Results

35 students graduated from iHub Africa. By the end of the year, over 91% of them were placed in jobs, freelance roles, or further education.

More evidence yet that our model was working.

We leaned into employer partnerships, gave learners more exposure to real clients, and introduced advanced coaching to help them navigate the world of work.

Progress with Purpose

47 students graduated from iHub Africa. Our biggest cohort yet.

Each year, we’ve refined how we train, mentor, and support our youth and 2024 was no different. With a sharper curriculum, stronger alumni involvement, and more consistent support, we’re showing that impact isn’t about scale, it’s about doing it better, year after year.

The Movement Continues

3800 applications for 60 spots.

52 students are currently on the journey, each one a reminder of why we do the work. We’re listening more closely, refining what matters, and doing what we know works. And as we look ahead, plans are already underway to open a new hub in Cape Town in 2026 expanding our reach, while staying rooted in impact.

The Movement Continues

With 2026 on the horizon, we are exploring innovative ways to keep growing and impacting lives.

We plan to open a new hub in Cape Town in 2026 and add additional training streams such as web development to match the evolving landscape and incresing demand in digital skills.

Meet the team that makes it happen, day after day.
